Humanity on the Cross - Julia Fulford-Kirby

Humanity on the Cross
The Kirk Gallery, Sydney – November 1997

An exhibition of Sculpture representing emotions supporessed in women by a male dominated society.

The inspiration¬†for this exhibition comes from the last 2,000 years¬† as far as culture is concerned, women have hardly existed. In literature, music, art, and religion, what we have seen is man’s view of women.

Humanity on the Cross represents the emotions women have repressed and locked away inside themselves in order to survive a male dominated childhood, marriage, and work enviornment.

Each piece represents a different emotion, i.e. Fear, Betrayal, Rejection, Shame, Tempation, and Despair.

Pieces from this exhibition now reside in New York, London, New Zealand, and cities across Australia.
